bp pulse at a glance
bp pulse is bp's public EV charging brand in the UK, rebranded from the Polar Network in 2021 and expanded under bp's electrification strategy. On the motorway network, bp pulse rapid chargers (50 kW CCS and CHAdeMO) and ultra-rapid hubs (150 kW CCS) are primarily found at Roadchef motorway service areas, with some presence at select Welcome Break sites. Away from motorways, bp pulse also covers destination chargers at BP forecourts, retail parks and car parks; for motorway route planning the Roadchef partnership is the most relevant. Coverage continues to expand, so not every Roadchef site currently has bp pulse.

bp pulse charger types and connectors
bp pulse motorway chargers come in two main tiers. Rapid units, typically rated at 50 kW, use CCS2 as the primary DC connector with CHAdeMO also present on older hardware. These are the most widely deployed type in the bp pulse motorway footprint. Ultra-rapid units at newer bp pulse hubs deliver up to 150 kW on CCS2 only. CHAdeMO is not fitted to these higher-power units. Some bp pulse sites also include Type 2 AC sockets at slower power levels for cars that prefer AC charging. If your car uses CHAdeMO, check that the specific bp pulse site has a CHAdeMO cable before relying on it.

bp pulse charges per kWh, with different rates depending on whether you have a bp pulse account or pay without one. Account holders pay a lower per-kWh rate; non-account users pay a higher ad-hoc rate via the app or contactless payment where available. bp pulse pricing changes periodically, so the specific pence-per-kWh figures are not quoted here; check the bp pulse app or website for current rates before you charge.
